One of the biggest concerns that families have is how they will pay for their child’s therapy. In 2012, the State of Michigan passed an insurance mandate that guarantees coverage for in-state group and individually purchased policies. Additionally, a number of state funded policies cover ABA therapy. Out-of-state and self-insured policies were not included in this mandate. However, the bill did create a system for employers that offer self-funded policies to choose to cover ABA therapy and then be reimbursed through the state.

Unfortunately, there are many exceptions to this rule, and without significant experience navigating the world of insurance it can be hard to determine whether you are receiving accurate information.
